Custom Gen 2 Rugged The kit includes: GSS Gen 2 Rugged Gear Gimbal, Controller, RED Helium or RED Gemini, Canon 50-1000mm or Canon 25-250mm or Canon 14.5-60mm, Operator & Directors Monitors.
The system has been built to my own spec and modified from the standard units to make it more ergonomic in operation, more capable and reliable in extreme environments and therefore more able to deliver sequences where other systems would fail. (I have never had my system fail in several hundred hours of operation). It is the Gen 2 spec which means you can hot swap lens and Camera quickly. It also has the Rugged Gear upgrade for tracking vehicle work on rough terrain. The system also has custom ground settings for use on tracking vehicles.
Custom Modifications: Reconfigured Laptop Controller to allow the operator to focus, soon and press REC all at the same time. Might seem crazy not to be able to do this (as all pan bar zoom demands/hand on focus wheel of lens give this to a standard long lens)… but the standard GSS/Shotover units do not allow this.
Forced Air Back Covers. To keep the gimbal cool The standard units overheat very quickly in ambient temperatures over 30 degrees. My system as uprated fans which give a few degrees over the standard fan units. Plus I have developed my own cooling add on which will run the system in full sun in ambient temps up to 50 C with no issues.
Modified Lens Shade. This is an extra long modular snout attachment which means no sun hits the front element and therefore reduces unwanted flare. This also serves as a rain shield so the system can be used in relatively heavy rain without the use of a rain spinner. You can also use this with the port glass on (to protect from the elements) or without (to improve image quality) while still retaining the shade.
GSS Wireless Control Unit. This unit allows GSS to be controlled wirelessly from up to a few hundred meters away. This can be applied in several ways – from use on dollies (see below) to other small manned vehicles on which you cannot fit an operator and driver. As a remote camera with a disturbance sensitive subject (eg outside a den).
GSS V-Lock Power Unit. Allows GSS to be power on 2 or 4 V-Locks for applications which require weight saving.
