Song Thrush Snail Smash
This is a clip I shot of a song thrush using a snail anvil from the second film Charlie Hamilton James and I made together - The Wild Wood (Natural World, BBC2, 2005) this was a great rig to build and make work... pretty pointless in every way except it looked quite cool at the time! Shot an an Arri SR2. The rig was pretty complicated as it involved digging a large pit about 3 ft deep and 8 foot across to house the spinning camera rig. This was an Arri SR2 on the end of a counter balanced arm. The camera span around the ‘woodland floor’ which was actually a set on plywood suspended from above (and in Charlie’s garden). I built the rig, the set, the lot... the only thing that wasn’t made by me was the thrush and the snails. I set a dummy camera up to get the thrush used to its movement...
